STAR is recruiting an ESOL professional to support English Conversation Club in Nottingham
Salary: £20 per hr
Hours: 15-20 hrs per university term
Contract: To September 2016 (initially)
Location: Nottingham
Closing date: 12pm, 1st September 2015
STAR is the national network of 13,000 students welcoming refugees to the UK, through awareness raising, campaigning, volunteering and fundraising. STAR student volunteers provide English Conversation Clubs at a number of locations across the UK in partnership with local refugee organisations and with the support of International House London. The primary aim of the Clubs is to improve the spoken English communication skills of refugee attendees but also to reduce isolation among refugees and promote shared understanding between refugees and students. The Nottingham club takes place on Tuesday evening.
Thanks to funding from IH London, we are looking to recruit an ESOL professional to support the club in Nottingham by providing guidance and training to the student volunteers during the academic year. This will involve visiting the club, planning and running training sessions for volunteers and providing advice and guidance to the volunteer project coordinators.
The ideal candidate will have a CELTA or TESOL qualification or equivalent, extensive experience of teaching English to asylum seekers and refugees in the UK, proven ability to design and deliver training and experience of working with and supporting volunteers.
