Hello,
I thought I should introduce myself as I've been lurking for a couple of weeks :)
My name's Anthony, and I live in Artigarvan, a village in County Tyrone in Northern Ireland. I work at the University of Ulster, at the Magee campus (in Derry/Londonderry).
What drew me towards this group between one thing and another is that I've been doing work for the last number of years on a 'politics of gentleness', working to develop a social-theoretical way of talking about the possibilities of gentleness as a vernacular ethics in relationship. It has brought me to rethink notions of power, agency, creativity, community, conflict, and others. In relation to teaching, I have also been trying to make sense of what I have been calling a 'pedagogy of gentleness'. The basics are available on a text-heavy website that needs an injection of time and decluttering, http://www.craftinggentleness.org
It turns out that much of my work seems to have plenty in common with the inclusional research and living educational theory work that has been going on, which I find very heartening.
Anyway, just saying hi, and glad to have found ye.
By the way, I may be flying over to the South West of England via Bristol next week, and I was wondering if anyone was going to be in the area while I was planning to be there, with a view to meeting up. I am waiting till Sunday to make a final call on whether I'm going over on Monday 14th or not, due to family stuff, but I'm currently leaning towards heading over. So, if anyone is near Bath or Bristol and might like to hang out, let me know.
(I'm also planning to get over for the Strawberry Hill conference in September, and have plans to bring a few of my Magee buddies with me.)
All the best with everything,
Anthony McCann
