Hi all

Just to confirm that these are in addition to the NIACE events, which
are all just about full, including the extra event scheduled for Monday
afternoon in London. We have a few places for Leeds on Friday if anyone
has yet to register!

Best wishes

Anita

Subject: FW: DIUS ESOL consultation

Hello all
This invitation (from John Denham himself!) was forwarded to me by
someone in DIUS, who asked if I could circulate it. It is about a series
of consultations on ESOL organised by DIUS itself, seemingly in parallel
but separate from the ones just about to start organised by NIACE. As
far as I can see, both relate to the same ESOL consultation currently
underway, deadline 4 April. As ever, the timing is tight.
The invitation is attached; the text is copied below.
James

*****

INVITATION: HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE FUTURE OF ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER
LANGUAGES (ESOL)

Dear Colleague

As you may be aware, a major consultation on focusing English for
Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) on community cohesion is currently
underway. We would very much value your input into this important
debate.

The Government is committed to fostering cohesion in all our communities
and ESOL provision is clearly a key contribution.
We want to hear what you and your organisation think of the proposals
and arguments put forward in our consultation document for more targeted
ESOL funding. The events are as follows:

Tuesday 11th March Ealing
Thursday 13th March Stoke on Trent
Monday 17th March Rochdale
Tuesday 1st April Peterborough
Thursday 3rd April Bristol

If you are able to attend any of these events we will send you a copy of
the document. Alternatively, if you are unable to attend, you can
respond to the consultation online at www.esolconsultation.org.uk.

We have already discussed the policy intentions of this proposition with
key stakeholders and the independent ESOL Advisory Forum.
We now want to engage much more widely with citizens and stakeholders.
This event will offer an opportunity for participants to voice their
views.

Please note places at these events are by invitation only and will be
allocated on a first come first serve basis, venue details will be sent
to you nearer the time. Please sign up as soon as possible by clicking

If you have any queries please contact Central Office of Information
(COI) on 020 7261 8400.

We look forward to hearing from you.
JOHN DENHAM
