We (a group of grass roots researchers) recently won three funded PhD's for a research cluster which we're just developing at Hull. People on this list might be interested in applying. We've given titles for the three projects but we are not prescriptive when it comes to methodology - we're a mixed group of languages, education, gender studies, cultural studies researchers and we emphasize interdisciplinarity. The titles are :

Critical literacy among working class and migrant communities in the North of England
Identity, Internationalism and Language Learning on Screen: Foreign Language TV programmes in the UK Context
