STAR is recruiting ESOL professionals to support English Conversation Clubs for refugees
Salary: £20 per hr
Hours: 15-20 hrs per university term
STAR is the national network of 13,000 students welcoming refugees to the UK, through awareness raising, campaigning, volunteering and fundraising. STAR student volunteers provide English Conversation Clubs at a number of locations across the UK in partnership with local refugee organisations and with the support of International House London. The primary aim of the Clubs is to improve the spoken English communication skills of refugee attendees but also to reduce isolation among refugees and promote shared understanding between refugees and students.
Thanks to funding from IH London we are looking to recruit ESOL professionals to support a number of the clubs by providing guidance and training to the student volunteers during the academic year. This will involve visiting the clubs, planning and running training sessions for volunteers and providing advice and guidance to the volunteer project coordinators.
The ideal candidates will have extensive experience of teaching English to asylum seekers and refugees in the UK and experience of working with and supporting volunteers.
The clubs are in the following locations; Nottingham and Birmingham.
