Hi Marion and others
Sorry it has taken me a while to reply to your message, Marion. Was busy preparing to head to the U.K. where I am now.
I agree that some research areas find it difficult have their approaches taken seriously. New Zealand instigated a
Research Assessment process in 2003 that, for all its subsequent problems,DID encourage a very broad understanding of what constitutes research. I attended a creative arts conference at the local polytech in 2003. An Australian professor - think her name was Anna Moffat - was a keynote. She said that our new research assessment system was the first time she had seen creative arts research being accepted on the same footing as more traditional forms of research. As I have probably said on this forum before, we were able to count traditional Maori arts evidence such as woven flax cloaks and carvings AS RESEARCH in their own right.
All the best for your very important work with people experiencing dementia, and those supporting them. It is indeed critical that due recognition is given to such work.
Warm regards
Pip
