Thank you, Fatma, for your support!
I've already started thinking that my students and myself are the only ones who don't feel happy about the existing system.
Hope most practitioners will support us, which could urge the policy makers to take some action and expand the range of qualifications. In her reply to my query, Isabel Arnold mentioned a variety of options offered by the City and Guilds Board. I think that the board's flexibility is the key to success on the market when colleges/centres have to make their choice of an exam board to cooperate with.

You're right Marina. I feel this doesn't really make sense. In fact there was talk about suppressing the Speaking and Listening qual as well.Worse-if a student passes S&L and either Reading or Writing the achievement is nil with ILR. This is the case for Cambridge quals as well. Something needs to be done about that.

I wonder if anybody could explain why there are only 2 ESOL qualifications available for students - either in Speaking alone or in all 3 modules together, at least with Trinity College London Exam Board that we are using. Maybe other Boards offer qualifications in each of the three modules?
From my experience, because writing is much more challenging for students, they often miss out having been forced to take reading and writing together. At the same time, passing the National Literacy test implies achieving the qualification in Reading only.
I would be thankful for any ideas or references.

Preparing to teach ESOL in the lifelong learning sector - I'd recommend tak=
