'Skills for Life and working with homeless people'
Friday 15th February 11-2.30 at the Salvation Army, Blackpool.
As part of an NRDC (National Research and Development Centre for Adult
Literacy and Numeracy) study, David Barton and Candice Satchwell of the
Literacy Research Centre, Lancaster University have been carrying out a
study of homelessness and educational provision. This has included a
case study of Blackpool.
Drawing on our recent research carried out with homeless people and
their access to education, we will discuss: Who is homeless and why; Who
cares and how; Where does Skills for Life fit in; What educational
provision works best. We will share case studies of individuals and
examples of good practice to identify what contributes to an effective
learning environment when working with a variety of people who are
classified as homeless. We are now producing a Practitioner Guide for
people who work with educational provision for homeless people. We will
have a draft of the guide and the workshop will focus on the guide and
providing feedback on it.
The workshop is for practitioners who work with homeless groups or who
come across homeless people in their work.
There is no charge. Further questions and to register, contact Jessica
