Just to follow on from what James said re Margaret's presentation to the ESOL research group. A fascinating insight into the multiple Englishes of L2 users in terms of English in specific contexts as well as the cultural demands of regional English across the world. Highly relevant. Thanks Margaret.

Subject: ESOL-Research presentation and refs
Hello!
Last Thursday Margaret Hearnden presented her work to the ESOL Research
Group. Margaret has been doing PhD research into the communicative needs
of internationally educated nurses. Her study is in a Canadian context -
she is based at OISE/University of Toronto. We found many points of
comparison with the UK situation at the meeting.
Margaret has kindly allowed me to forward her powerpoint presentation
and list of references to ESOL-Research. I know a number of people would
like to have been there but couldn't. So here is the next best thing.
Margaret's email adress is on the refs list, if you want to get in touch
with her.
Best wishes
James
