From the Refugee Council: Lobby of Parliament.
James
______
Dear All
As part of the University and College Union led Save ESOL campaign, a mass lobby of Parliament is planned for 28 February 2007.
The Refugee Council, as part of the day, is staging a photo call ESOL lesson on Parliament Square between 10.30-11.00. This will focus on the impact of cuts in ESOL funding on refugees and people claiming asylum.
The staged ESOL lesson will involve a few students who have benefited from LSC funded English courses while claiming asylum and with leave to remain. It will provide the backdrop for organisations and groups from around the country to meet with their local MPs and media to raise the issues.
The students participating in the lesson will be available to speak with the media and there will be a number of other speakers available. MPs should be encouraged to contact regional/local media representation in London to come and cover the story. More details on how to lobby your MP are on UCU's main site.
Further details of the event, along with other ESOL resources and links to UCU are at www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/ESOL <http://www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/ESOL>
Look forward to seeing you there and please circulate this as widely as possible.
