ILPs - From the Bottom Up!
Dear Colleagues,
This seminar will be of interest to practitioners and managers in FE, ACL and WBL who are concerned to make the process of using ILPs as relevant as possible to their learners - not just in using them as tutor or manager tools. Although of interest to all with a Skills for Life involvement, it will be particularly relevant to those concerned with literacy and / or numeracy rather than ESOL.
In November 2005, a very successful event focused on identifying practitioners' key concerns about how ILPs are used in a range of Skills for Life teaching and learning contexts. An emerging issue was a concern that learners should find involvement in the process to have value for them. Following this, colleagues from the event devised a questionnaire designed to elicit learners' views about using ILPs. We now have about 150 completed questionnaires and have collated the responses.
We would like to invite you to take part in this follow-up event. At the event, you will examine the information in the completed questionnaires and evaluate its usefulness. In addition, you will hear about some other current research about ILPs in use. By the end of the event will have had the opportunity to consider how to use ILPs in a way that learners' perspectives are taken into account.
Specifically, the seminar will provide an opportunity for participants to:
consider the implications of some current ILP practice
in a homeless project;
from observations of ILPs in use in classrooms
examine the Research Forum data collated from learners' questionnaires
construct a list of some principles for good practice around using ILPs informed by learners' perspectives
The seminar will take place at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Lancaster University, and the cost for will be £80 (covering all costs, including refreshments). As space is limited please complete the attached form and return it with remittance for the seminar by 25th September.
Detailed information and travel details will follow application and payment.
Do let me know if you have any questions. I am happy to do all I can to help. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind regards
Kathryn James
