Thanks for the references, Jack. I think it's time we addressed this issue:
re. When people make such mistakes I try to correct them as soon as possible to
prevent them persisting in making erroneous claims about my beliefs. The error,
repeaded in public, carries the danger that other people may attribute to me
beliefs I do not hold.
Me too. I do find the statements about ethics interesting in your new book
especially as you have yet to follow your own guidance ... with regard to
protecting my anonymity in your writing - let's look at what you have said:
this paper has been removed from the Education-line Database where you posted
it, after I asked you to remove references about me which were misleading ...
"I am looking forward to continuing our productive lives together. However, the
last two years have not been productive together although we have continued with
our individual contributions. I would characterize the relationship over these
two years as pathologically damaged due to the scarification Sarah experienced
in our workplace. Our offices were next door to each other and from the time
of that my colleague was unable to continue her planned research programme into
mentoring with best practice research studentships our productive conversations
were replaced by responses to her experiences in the workplace. The increasing
intensity and frequency of these responses led me to do most of my work from
home with the help of a broadband connection to the internet." BERA 2004

Now 1) I was not working in the Department in the next door office for many
months in the period you say I drove you from your 'nest' (I rather smile at
that image actually - as far as validating it - does it really ring true???)
I was seriously ill with Meniere's disease so if you chose not to be in your
office that's fine - but it's really misleading to say that I drove you out.
2) You were my trusted friend at that time as well as my colleague - you were
the person who most represented a listening ear in your senior position in the
professional union that was wholeheartedly supporting me to ring a case under
the Disability Discrimination Act. You even wrote to say you were my friend in
an official AUT capacity so what you've divulge in your paper is confidential.
I've learnt that it is so crucial to move on and rise above past injuries and
that is why I have continued to express my hope that one day you too will move
on - we'll engage with one another's work as we used to, in trust and delight.
Do keep those most erroneous statements on your website and let them serve as a
reminder that you should follow your own advice when you talk about ethics.
Are there any criteria that you would like me to bear in mind as I redraft my
review of your book? I will begin redrafting this weekend - do let me know...
Kind regards and looking forward to 'continuing our productive lives together'
Sarah
