I also stress in my supervision/tutoring of practitioner-research the
importance of Bob Bullough's
and Stefinnee Pinnegar's insight that:
"The consideration of ontology, of one's being in and toward the world,
should be a central
feature of any discussion of the value of self-study research" (Bullough &
Pinnegar, 2004 p. 319)

Ontology could and should be turned into a distinct, autonomous and self
evaluative discipline with its own epistemology, education, ethics and
ethos, via self-study. All the attempts to make it part of other domains
(the social, educational and human sciences, philosophy and the humanities),
with their own evaluative and methodological means, do an injustice to the
human subject, his/her essence and intention. I believe and wish to
constructively illustrate that Ontology needs nothing else but itself. The
human subject always knows best what makes him/her and can systematically
re-evaluate and clarify it with/in a heuristics of human existence.
