At Portsmouth we have a small number of People's Network patrons who refuse
to use certain computers becasue of a perceived lack of privacy. In addition
we are also aware that some people purchase goods over the Internet (which
entails entering credit card details publicly) and view their online bank
accounts in full view of passers by. Whilst we understand that patrons can't
necessarily expect total privacy when using a computer in a public library,
we are nevertheless exploring feasible options of providing more privacy to
our users. One we are investigating now is the use of Privacy Filters.
An observation from memory is that some privacy filters on a hinge exist,
which may then be raised from the display screen, allowing for persons who
require some privacy, and those who may not as they wish the screen to be
viewed by others.
I do not know how robust those items proved to be.

Apologies if this issue has come up in the past.

Has any library authority tried these yet, and if so what was the outcome?
Have your patrons reacted positively to them or otherwise?
