I know of one incident that involved a planning application for a jeweller's
store. The council's web site had full details of the application plus a copy
of the plan which actually showed the position of the safe!!!! Also
available on the council website was a "business directory" for the area which said
quite clearly that the number of employees was one.
When the police did a security review after the shop was held up they were
quite appalled to find that these details were readily available on the council
web site.
Yes, it is possible the information would have been available elsewhere but
the point is it makes it too easy, it's like actually helping the bad guys (and
gals). And I count amongst the bad peeps the double glazing and building
firms that bombard you with junk mail when they find out you are having an
extension or conservatory built. That's because some councils sell the weekly
planning lists to these firms, without the consent of the individual. Section 11?
Robertson case? Fair processing? Another gripe of mine. Please forgive me.
