I would be asking the company for a copy of the appointment letter. You
could then check with the staff member who supposedly issued the letter whether an
appointment was made without a permanent record placed on the database. If
the letter is likely to be a forgery, pass it to your counter-fraud team. Let
them deal with the response to the employer, too.
