Dear Commissioner,
First please be aware that I am copying this request for guidance to a
learned UK and international discussion group for matters relating to Data
Protection and to a lesser extent to Freedom of Information. Unless you do
not permit me to, and say so explicitly in your reply, I will present your
response verbatim to that same list. If you withhold permission I will
publish a synopsis there. Sorry for the formal part, but I did need to let
you know that data would be passed to third parties and potentially exported
from the EEA before you responded. I am sure you will see the publication
of a full response as being wholly in the public interest
"Sections of the Data Protection Act 1998 have been amended by the enactment
of the Freedom of Information Act". This is the starting premise. One such
area is section 7(3). My question, our question, is "How do those of us who
are not lawyers but who act as non legally trained individuals on behalf or
our employers or our clients become aware of the definitive state of the
Data Protection act as amended by other legislation?"
More simply, do you as UK Information Commissioner, publish an effectively
up to date and current version of the Data Protection Act 1998 (as amended
by other legislation)?
