Hi Antoinette,
You mean YOU DON'T PRINT THEM? How do you circulate emails? Don't you
print them, circulate them, and then file them in a very large arch lever file (yeap
that black file with the many labels stuck on its spine)? The best one was a
person I knew who would get them printed for him, then he would dictate to his
secretary a short hand reply, she (yeah she was a she) type it, print it for
checking and then send it. When I have a secretary (that'll be the day) I will insist
on signing all my printed emails before they are sent so the receipients will know
they are from me.
On a more serious point. Ian, did make some valid points. Where perhaps I
would not (personally) have had much of an issue is, if the list was to become a
bit more of a helpdesk. Well it is a helpdesk anyway with the only difference
being that answers can still be discussed and be debated. As the same/similar
questions keep coming up on the list, I have no doubt they will be getting similar
questions all the time at the OIC. Putting answers/discussions on a public
list could somewhat reduce the load at the OIC (and pigs might fly).
However, I do see the point that discussions could move to a level that would be
above most listers (me inlcuded). Hence, what you'll find is that the OIC would
be here to be picked upon and be criticised, whilst any comment they make
would be scrutinised a great deal. Hence, it is unlikely that we'll see them
participating in this list (or any similar list).
I am afraid the argument in favour or against the OIC participation is rather
academic. It would be probably better if they were here but ...
Charles
