Personally I support some involvement but:-
1. if the OIC were actively involved, is there a grave danger many of the
groups open discussions may become under developed, thereby reducing the
value, with some enquiries, or differences in opinion, being resolved simply
by asking for the OIC's opinion at an early stage, possibly leading the
group into becoming more of a simple help desk?
2. could OIC active involvement lead to greater active involvement by some
of the more experienced members of the group leading to a different value
being gained, but significantly changing the group for general DP
practitioners?
3. somewhat dependant on the answer to 2. above, given that at times some
are currently willing to challenge the advice given by the OIC, would this
value continue to be experienced by the group?
3. accepting the OIC's restricted funding and heavy workloads, coupled to
their clear connection to virtually every e-mail this group generates, what
would be reduced/lost in order to service this list, could the resource time
be accommodated, or would extra funding need to be available for that?
4. what measures could be employed to determine what changes in value for
the group occur, and if they were generally beneficial to everybody?
If the group turned into a simple help desk type function, I personally
believe that at the moment much would be lost to all members of the group.
An effective e-mail helpdesk function located on the OIC's server could
serve the same purpose, but some of the issues above would remain.
