Dear All,
Thank you for your responses.
As Simon said we have the same problem with international students, who
request 50 or even 100% additional time. So I was wondering if there is
a maximum time permitted or any guidelines you follow.
Many thanks
Diana

i wrote a policy to do just what Roddy suggests - I decide on the basis
of evidence supplied which i can always provide if needed. Our Academic
Standards committee agreed it had far too much to do to be reading all
EP reports etc. If anything extra-ordinary crops up I can refer it to
either the Academic Registrar or the Academic Standards Committee

We have just abolished the exams panel for disabled students here at
SGUL, as it was found to be bureaucratic and time-consuming. It's now
down to me to authorise extra time if:
a) evidenced by EP report, needs assessment or med evidence, and
b) if the student asks for additional exam arrangements.
This now means we need to rewrite the whole exam (and disability) policy
though!

Diana, does the panel meet to consider all requests? Who makes up the
panel? I've been trying to persuade my university to adopt a procedure
for students who are unhappy with their agreed recommendations, so any
information from other HEIs would be very useful.

Dear all,
Here we have a panel that conceders requests for arrangements and extra
time to write exams when a student has a disability.
The exams office is asking if there are any general guidelines on extra
time for students with different disabilities. E.g. extra time if
someone is using a screen reader or amanuensis.
Cases are individually assessed but they feel a kind of guideline would
be helpful.
Does anybody know if such guidelines exist and where can I find them?
Many thanks
