As an interested party - obviously - all I would say is that the ICO puts some of his staff through the ISEB DP exam, and that his office is involved with the ISEB DP syllabus also. I also think the qualification is not an easy option and I find most people who come on our courses get a lot out of them - even if they "know a lot". (That's probably because we know a lot more - but then I would say that anyway!)
The central question is whether the examination is held by a recognised examining body, is independent of the training provider, is of a proven standard, and is recognised widely by employers. Many Universities have different qualifications covering the same topic so I can't see an issue having something that competes with ISEB.

Subject: [data-protection] Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection
Today I came across a reference to the Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection; it seems to have been launched by PDP Training with ICO backing and accreditation by the Law Society. See http://privacydataprotection.co.uk/training/certification/dp/
Anyone know any more about this course? Given that there is the existing ISEB course is there really a need for a second accredited short training course?
regards,
Kevin
