My own experience is that this is good for this type of work ie not
well-paid but it is better than many jobs in this field.
Particularly where a librarianship qualification is specified rather than
the IT route.
It would be interesting to do a pay survey of members of this list - and
their career paths.
Many jobs in records management are very poorly paid because they are dealt
with by people with a librarianship background - which is a traditionally
poorly paid field.
I have been put forward by a librarianship/information science agency for an
FoI job where having a qualification in information science was mandatory -
rather than IT experience.
I thought that Eq Ops meant that discriminatory job requirements were not
allowed and alternative job paths were to be considered.
I have given up mostly applying for FoI jobs because this career path is
assumed despite my having done an FoI job as well as a consultancy in
Information Governance.
Nick Landau
PS My comments might be more appropriate to the FoI list, but the area of
Information Governance clearly covers both.

Whilst I think Iain is jesting somewhat, I do believe that the salary level
you are offering compared with the responsibility and knowledge expected
means that you will probably only get "boys" applying. With this in mind I
would consider structuring questions around how someone might attain the
skills required once in post, as I doubt you will get someone to the skills
level you hope for, but you may just get an enthusiastic bunny who is
willing to learn.....

Try "If you have all these skills and bearing in mind that we are only
paying 35k (in London!)why are you applying?" for starters

If you were recruiting a senior manager (£35k pa) with overall
responsibility for information governance, FOI, DP, knowledge management,
and EDRMS, what searching questions would you ask to "sort the men from the
boys"?
