I was careful not to specify. In part because I hoped it would be picked
up, and in part because I *perceive* no difference between the two though I
understand the technical reality is that they are very different.
My belief is that an ethical business should treat all its customers and
prospective customers as genuine individuals regardless of technical status,
and should work as though they were all sole traders.

Although the original posting didn't specify auto-replies within a business
context, in that case the information only falls under the DPA if the
individual is a sole trader or possibly a partner (IMHO) - I'd be interested
to know whether targeting those individuals for recruitment purposes is a
personal use as opposed to business use....
