New students here are asked about DSA via the Registration
sysstem however they may not understand what DSA is/may not
get DSA until later in the semester/course. I was also concerned
about the accuracy of the data so I now have an 'arrangement'
with the University section responsible for maintaining
the data. I have access to the student record and can enter
the data in two fields to collect the necessary information.
Whilst this is not ideal - in that the data is only entered
by me if the student comes forward for support - it will work
towards greater accuracy.

In my institution the Registry maintain the statistics and up until this year if a student came to me with needs during the course and they had not declared a disability when they registerd I would
This year with HESA adding in the additional field to monitor the take-up of the DSA or the SDA as they call it is giving me headaches. The students either do not understand the SDA is the DSA or a
ill not take themselves off to the Registry just to ensure our stats are up to date.
I know I could introduce a form for the students to sign when they are seeing me over their DSA's but it is just another job on the list.
Any comments, how do you all manage with field 15 for HESA or do all your stats to HESA show you have very few students claiming a DSA.
