Yes, I DO consider myself to be a person who has daftness. Or a daft person.
NOT a daft.
I may appear to be treating this extremely serious issue lightly - I'm not - every
one of my hats is involved in working to try to improve things. My experience is
that awareness training [like everything else] is easier to digest if it is delivered
with a smile.
Labelling, and vocabulary generally, is a real problem. Visitors to the College,
for example, can be very concerned about the words they use and may even
avoid talking to students rather than risk "giving offence". I always try to
reassure visitors that our blind students still use the verbs see, look and watch!
