The archetypal western haiku is from the speech of Shem and Shaun
from Finnegans Wake. If I can remember it properly,
Eins within a space, and a weary wide space it wore, der wonst a Mookse.
It uses the 17 syllable form, combines many ideas.
It is an echo of the first line of Portrait of an Artist,
It is a story (Once upon a time - Eins with in a space)
It is science (Einstein and space/time)
It includes sex (Mookse -> Moo Cow -> Mother Image -> River Liffy)
You guys really wanted to know that.
