I thought these comments below were indicative of what we have coming as
well. It also seems that they are going to have the same training problems
as we are having...We desperately need more time and more hands on deck!!

Subject: Increasing importance of adaptive tech for education
The following blurb was extracted from EDUPAGE. If colleges are expanding
so rapidly into the use of computers and network communications, then
seeing that it is fully accessible through adaptive technology is
increasingly important.

...and all the more reason to bring the disability awareness issues to the
highest institutional levels instead of segregating them off in a
disabilities services office.. *This* is the biggest problem, and
certainly the one that my university hasn't made any progress towards in
the past 15 or more years. I'm sure the situation is similar in a vast
majority of the others as well.

IT SPENDING BOOM FORECAST FOR COLLEGES
Information technology spending by colleges and universities is
expected to jump from $3.1 billion in 1998 to nearly $5 billion
by 2003 in an effort to attract students and stay current in
computer technology, predicts International Data in the report
"IT Spending Forecast for Higher Education Institutions,
1998-2003." Spending on communications products should grow the
most, according to the IDC, rising 15.4 percent annually to $693
million by 2003, while computer hardware spending should reach
nearly $2 billion. IDC says spending will rise as colleges and
universities move more information to the Internet while expanding
their distance learning programs.
