PowerPoint comes with many helpful templates as part of the set-up and one
is called "Presentation Guidelines".
As to practical guidelines about layout and length of sentences etc. There
are many books that have special help pages inc. Principles of Screen Design

Ideas taken from several sites which will help those with dyslexia in the
same way as all viewers:
Be careful with the use of colour..keep it simple only a one or two colours.
Many say deep blue or green background colour, with white, yellow, orange
and cyan text and lines is good but if a light room then this is unhelpful.
Yellow letters will appear to come forward; dark blues and deep reds will
recede, so yellow on blue can be easy to read.
Avoid red text, especially on a blue or green background..does not help
colour-blind and visually impaired.
Try to keep the same background throughout the presentation. for a
consistent presentation.
Bullets and short phrases are more effective than sentences. No more than
5-7 bullets per slide, and no more than 5-7 words per bullet.
One concept/slide at a time is a good guide: Word slides should be used to
outline and emphasise key words.... can the slide be scanned in 15 secs? Do
not forget that white space helps.
Graphs or graphics add interest as well as simplify the information.
Use just one or two fonts throughout. Use large, bold type for titles and
headings, plain text for the body of your slides, and italics for
highlighting. Colour can also be used for highlighting a point, but use
restraint. As a rule, the Sans-Serif fonts are easier to read. Upper case
tends to be harder to read compared to lower case.
