Dear Kate
I am the Project Coordinator for a the WEBB Accessibility
Project looking into disability issues and HE. Part of this
is looking at assessments and I have interviewed several
LEAs.
The latest guidleines the LEAs have says that the
'diagnostic dyslexia assessment' must be carried out by a
disability specialist or an ed. psych.. LEAs are slightly
dubious about the 'disability specialist side of things but
may come round. However, essentially this means the
disability advisers etc in the university could be trained
up to do assessments over a couple of years, or if they
already know how to do the various tests then they are
ready-qualified.
At present the majority of dyslexic students have their
diagnositc assessments funded from the universities 'Access
Funds'.
Hope this is of some use. Let me know how you get on.
Best Regards
Julie Littlejohn
