>From 'Bridging The Gap - A Guide To Disabled Students Allowance (DSAs)
in higher education in 19998/99', written by the DfEE, page 6: '...If
you have proof of acceptance on your course, your LEA might make
payments before your course begins for the purchase of special items of
equipment'. You might suggest they get some copies of this leaflet and
distribute it to students (as well as reading it themselves). Copies
available from DfEE 0800 731 9133.

* One LEA is refusing to make adavance DSA payment to enable student who
is
* blind and hard of hearing to buy essentail equipment before his
courses
* starts, although he needs the opportunity to become familiar with the
new
* technology before he starts his degree course. The LEA says thay have
not
* seen any guidelines to confirm that DSA's can/should be made available
* before the student enrols on his course.
*
* Can anyone point me towards current guidance notes etc to help
persuade
* the LEA?
*
* Thanks,
