Dear Rosemary
Re 1. If students are unable to get sufficient time on centrally
programmed computers and need more time generally to complete work it
may be argued that remote access to the University network is
needed if a lot of course notes, material etc are held on the
network; AT Kingston it varies hugely from course to course how much
course material is on the Internet.
I have found LEA's to be quite open to remote access as the cost of
a modem and dial up facilities is not huge. They should also assess
the likely costs for the phone bill involved.
<I have two queries for which I would be grateful for any thoughts:
<1, One or two students with Dyslexia have asked me about including a modem
<and link up to the internet in their DSA claim. Can anyone advise on LEA
<attitudes to this.
2. We had a student with a similar problem and as she could not
afford a radio aid, found no real solution although lecture notes and
time extensions were given in an attempt to help.
I would be interested to hear of solutions too!
<, We have a new Level One student (aged 73) who has no hearing in one ear
<and partial hearing in the other. She uses a hearing aid but is finding
<lectures difficult to hear. She will not be eligible for a DSA. None of our
<rooms have loop systems installed at present, so I would be interested in
<any suggestions.
All the best
Mary Norowzian
