I did notice it, but didn't even bother to comment, since I regarded
it as a totally ridiculous suggestion that no clinician would dream
of having anything to do with. Let's face it, the person who got
discharged 'at random' could be the most 'deserving' of patients
therein - maybe a young one who had been in the ICU for only a few minutes!
As I said, it is common in the UK for people to be discharged from an
ICU (or, indeed, an ordinary ward) earlier than would be considered
clinically desirable, in order to make space for a new admission, but
such difficult decisions have to be made carefully on the basis of
clinical considerations, most definitely not 'at random'.
