I don't really understand that statement. An 'algorithm' is merely a
set of detailed instructions for carrying out a calculation or other
problem-solving exercise. As such, anything and everything done by
statisticians could be expressed as an algorithm.
Is it perhaps being said that statisticians "don't like methods based
on algorithms which they don't understand"? - which, if the case,
would be very reasonable!
