As Andrew says one would not normally regard the content of work emails as personal data of the staff.
Although on a different topic ICO guidance on Info in Complaints files gives a good insight into this.
With an insistent subject I have occasionally used something like this formula when sending PD "In addition we confirm that we hold many emails on your account which contain your personal data, namely your name and email address, but no other personal data relating to you as defined in the Act. If you think we may have missed some personal data which is, exceptionally, contained in these emails could you please provide is with some indication of the nature of the data - we are happy to carry out any reasonable and proportionate searches of the account. "
