Hi all
Quick DP/FOI scenario. I have been contacted by an adopted man who is
trying to trace his birth father. He does not know the name of his father
and the only details he can provide us with are the nationality of his
father and that he attended the University in the early 1980s. (We are not
likely to have a large number of students from the country in question).
Framing it as an FOI request it might read, "Can I have the names of all
students from X country that attended your University in the early 1980s?"
and I can't get past s.40 FOIA.
I can't really see that we can help him within FOI and DP. This has been
rumbling on for some time and he is talking about the public interest in
disclosure (can't see that there is any). We have suggested other avenues
to him such as the Embassy of the country as the students coming over may
have sponsored etc. but he is not giving up.
Aside from all this, our records would not make it easy to find the
information concerned as not all records are electronic and nationality is
not always noted.
Any advice/thoughts would be welcome.
Thanks
Matt Morrison
