This is an interesting question. In so far as NHS records are concerned the
"date of death" is a field that is "controlled" by the Office of National
Statistics and is classed as a sensitive field. However, the DPA does not
apply to deceased individuals and therefore (talking off the top of my head)
the only issue - not the only one, but a big one, is the sharing of the
register for that purpose and identifying the living individual who
registered the death. However, it's a public document so maybe the public
nature of the information makes it reasonable?

Does anyone else share their register of deaths with other departments eg
revenues, housing, etc to avoid writing to deceased persons and so causing
distress to the family ?
Are there any laws relating to registrars to prevent this ?
