Dear list members,
We have a member of our field staff who would normally work from a home
office, where we would do all the necessary H&S due diligence to ensure he is
covered.
However, owing to the lack of a phone line in his remotely sited home property
and no signal strength for 3g, mobiles etc, he is considering the use of a back
office of a friends shop purely to log on to download and print off e-mails from
his company encrypted laptop using secure remote access rather than make a
long journey to district office for the same purpose or expect the company to
outlay a staggering amount to have a fixed line put in £££££. We would
therefore need to leave only a printer, desk, chair and supply of paper in this
site. Apart from the obvious health and safety issues to consider, so far I've
considered the following:
Restricted Access i.e. that the shop owner will probably want to have a set of
keys to this part of his site and will probably be required for his insurance.
Access out of hours.
Nil paperwork left there, (even whilst he nips next door to get a sandwich).
Never leaving his laptop or secure ID dongle on site.
No ability for making or receiving company confidential calls within this "office"
from his mobile in case overheard by shoppers next door.
Temptation to use this as a mobile office and work from there.
Risk of a known time of the office being empty i.e. when the shop is closed
versus no fixed time for a home location, etc.
I would appreciate any thoughts on other security issues to consider in terms
of DP and anything else that might help. If anyone else has had experience of
this already, I would be happy to hear from you.
Regards,
Clare Watts
