30 years on I wouldn't mind revisitng my gilded youth for a brief moment to
see myself being presented to the Queen Mum in the Royal Albert Hall,
especially as my recollection of it now is very hazy. But it wasn't even an
option then.

Yes, I can.
I had a friend at university who was an immigrant to the US. She was the
first person in her extended family to attend university. She was the
first in her extended family to get an advanced degree. She was also the
first in her family to get a PhD. Mind you, this was a woman who came from
a culture that thought women should be in the kitchen and having babies. I
can assure you that her graduation DVD, for the PhD, was watched by a lot
of people in her extended family in the US and in her home country for
those that could not attend.
A graduation for many people is a personal triumph over amazing adversity
requiring great courage, tenacity and sacrifice. We fortunate few who
take it for granted may not realize what an education costs.
So yes, I would think that some people might want to view this event in
later years.
Best regards,
Lawrence

Re: [data-protection] Filming Graduation Ceremonies
Data protection issues aside, can you imagine anybody voluntarily choosing
to watch such a tedious event if they didn't have to? Or, for that matter,
re-watching it on DVD, dewy eyed, at a later date?

Subject: [data-protection] Filming Graduation Ceremonies
Hello,
We currently film our graduation ceremonies and produce DVDs/Videos that
graduates can buy as a souvenir of the day. It has been suggested that we
could securely broadcast this over the internet so that family and friends
who are unable to attend could watch the ceremony. I do not fully
understand the IT issues but assuming that this could be done in a secure
way with a password and login - does this seem okay?
I am sure there must be something that I am missing as this doesn't feel
right, but the argument that we are already producing the DVD seems to
suggest (to my colleagues!) that there are no issues with this. I'd
really
appreciate any thoughts on this.
