??? In doctor's surgeries, there was a time when you were given a number and
when your number was called out, you were told which room to go to......
Simple.

I don't see how there is any way round the problem of disclosing one's name
in reception areas in order to get you in to the right room to see the right
doctor or dentist at the right time ...... short of telepathy.

It is a similar DP issue to that in outpatients clinics; "John HITCHES!!!!"
at reasonable volume. You then go into the room with the doctor who
specialises in embarrassing complaints. We just know you have the most
embarrassing of these.

My general practitioners has now gone hi-tec. You now log in for your
appointment by entering your date of birth (if you can remember it!) onto a
touch screen display. It then shows your appointment time and name and
roughly how long you will wait. Fine if you can cope with such things - many
elderly people probably could not.
To call you to see the doctor (or nurse) your name appears on a separate
rolling message display so the whole waiting room knows that Mr, Master,
Mrs, Miss or Ms Bloggs is now going in to see Dr x. Out of interest,
does anyone see a data protection issue with this?
