Today Westminster Police in partnership with Westminster
City Council, are launching the trial of a one-stop
communications platform. The platform called CommunitySafe
will improve communication with residents, businesses and
anyone living or working in or around Westminster.
This service will aim to provide fast time messages on SMS
texts direct to your mobile or pager, to inform you of any
serious incidents occurring in or around Westminster.
Emails detailing these incidents, as well as other crime
prevention and related news items will also be sent.
CommunitySafe includes access to a comprehensive website
listing all current incidents and emails, detailed mapping
facilities for such incidents, advice files and many more
features.
www.communitysafe.org is FREE to register and only takes a
couple of minutes.
Email and website access is also free for all registered
users. Receipt of SMS texts are charged to your own account
at your normal rate (approx 10-12p each) and are optional
to receive if cost is a concern. Police will only send SMS
texts when a SERIOUS incident occurs.
Several Police boroughs and councils have been working on
the development of this system with the London Resilience
Team for many months. A full trial was to be launched later
this year, but in light of events last week, The
Westminster Police Security Desk have decided to bring
forward their own trial.
We must stress all current communications from the police
in Westminster by email, pager and other methods will
continue to run in parallel with this trial, to ensure we
will continue to inform all resident and businesses as
comprehensively as possible.
Other benefits will include an enhancement of Westminster
City Council's ability to warn and inform you of other
serious incidents, such as gas leaks or burst water mains.
Over the coming months extra features will be added
including sections designed for use by local community
groups, including neighbourhood watch, businesses watch,
etc.
We must thank you all for your patience and tolerance over
the past week, when disruption to your normal life in
Westminster may often have been interrupted.
We hope by joining this system we can improve communication
in the future.
