It's going the rounds, but it's not clear whether all the ramifications
have been thought through on a national level.
It could be that there are few downsides, as long as you ignore the
ways
in which people other than the emergency services might exploit it.
Such
exploits might be harmless, but it would be nice to know someone had
con
considered them all fully.
One possible side effect is what the average phone might do when there
are two entries in the address book with the same number (eg "mum" and
"ICE") and what's shown when a call comes in from them.
ps: As a Data Protection issue, exactly whose vital interests [tm] are
being served by this invasion of the user's privacy when the ambulance
person starts a fishing expedition into people's mobile phones?
