I would simply say that, were Natalia Reis to be genuine she would, by now,
have responded to this list about the criticisms of her missive.
I take Ekin's point on board, but was careful to remove the original
"Alleged spam" from my message, and I would say that, if "All publicity is
good publicity" a google search on "The Training Guild" (use quotes) will
counter that. They are a wholly ethical company who have highly adverse
publicity from an ASA judgement against them that one might argue was
undeserved. Their business suffered from the adverse publicity
We are discussing their conference, and their website appears to be genuine.
And it does not look like poetry.com at all though I do see similarities.
But I think it is time for our list moderator to act.
Dismembers who hate spam may also choose to forward this missive to any of
the anti-spam organisations for their consideration.

A conference on "the main issues of concern within WWW/Internet...
technological and non-technological"? The conference description almost
reads like the Nigerian 419 emails that get filtered out by our server. If
it were a genuine conference on data protection, FOI or E-commerce, then it
might be of interest. As it stands, it's a fairly bizarre call for papers on
an incredibly vague and ill-described topic (only described in either
laughable terms or in a list of IT subjects which could have been lifted
from the index of a text book), and your paper may appear in their
book/online journal or whatever.
Actually, it reminds me of those poetry competitions in the 90's whereby
after entering the company said your poem was escellent and had been
included in their "world class" anthology and incidentally a copy of it can
be yours for £49.99..... "The best paper authors will be invited to publish
extended versions of their papers in the IADIS International Journal on
WWW/Internet. ". The similarities are worrying - and coupled to their lack
of response to Tim, the whole thing screams "scam" to my mind.

Perhaps we should ask the following question: Has anyone on this
list
attended a conference offered by this organisation?
Rather than assume some vague academic interest, there are only 3
degrees
of separation between academic ideas, ( :) ) we need to see if there
is a
genuine interest in the conference.
