Earlier this year we had a query about supply of the full register to a
prospective candidate before the general election was called. Interestingly
the term "electoral purposes" has not actually been defined in any statute
or court case.
When I received a personally addressed leaflet from one candidate the other
day I did think of responding to ask whether they had bothered to check the
mailing preference list (I am on it). However, I guessed that "electoral
purposes" might be cited as overriding that requirement and I don't have
the time to pursue it further.
Regards,
Graham
