Hello,
My Suprintendant Registrar has been in touch with me about a call from a
man who it appears is setting up a marriage business - basically it seems
he wanted the Registrars to supply him with info of forthcoming weddings.
He was told this would not be possible. However, it seems that he
subsequently visited the Register Office and noticed that we show details
of forthcoming marriages upon a noticeboard and it appears he is now
intent upon making future visits. My Registrar is of the view that he
should not be able to write down this info (alhough in her view we cannot
stop people memorising it) as there are 'data protection issues'.
Am I right in thinking that because it is a legal requirement to publish
and make publicaly available names and addresses of forthcoming marriage
partners that he is perfectly entitled to visit, record details and use
the information in whatever way he wishes?
As ever, thanks for your help.
Julie
