Personal query - My daughter (aged 11) has just received a letter from a
publishing company informing her that she has reneged on a credit/debit
card payment for a magazine that a (grown up) friend has subscribed to
on her behalf. This is the second time this has happened, the friend
being in the process of reorganising her entire life has made various
changes to her financial arrangements and although remembering the
important things like mortgage accounts has overlooked the magazine
subscription.
The last time this happened (about three months ago) I phoned up the
company and asked them to amend their records, however they maintained
that they have no record of the name of the credit/debit card holder and
only my daughter's name as recipient. After a conversation that became
rather heated, partly because I could not believe that was the case
(after all I am always asked to provide my card details which I assume
are then confirmed with the issuer), I asked them to make a note on her
file to indicate this.
I have now written to the company asking for a copy of my daughter's
records, but having not been involved in the financial side of DPA
before, am not entirely sure what they can charge me for this and if
there are any particular rules governing credit records. I seem to
remember that there is something that governs the large credit agencies
but would this apply to a publishing company, or is this just a standard
SAR?
Can anyone advise?
