So it would be okay for your employer to put this information into the public
domain? "Rob Dawson is currently in Barbados - your e-mail to him will be
dealt with by his deputy . . . . " I think not. The professional data vs
personal data argument is a red herring, the data are personal and the employer has
a right (in contract presumably) to use that personal data. The fact you are
off sick is personal data, the reason for your absence may well be sensitive
personal data - different rules apply but the essence is the same. If the
data were not personal, the employer would have the right to do anything he/she
wishes with the information but as it is, they only have the right to do with
it what is included in the contract.
