I couldn't disagree more. What possible legitimate purpose could this information be put to? Public document or not, the petitioners will not have been expecting the information to be made available to the partner. Was there a "fair collection notice" on the petition to this effect? I doubt it.

Not sure about the law in Scotland but I am told that in England a petition
is a public document. Anyone signing a petition thereby consents to their
details being in the public domain.
Bottom line, therefore, is that if they have signed without thinking it
through properly then it's tough.
