Whilst being a very useful forum, covering many pertinent issues and not
doubting for a moment the ethical stance of the site, I find it very
interesting that, in common with some other sites covering
privacy/ethics/morality on the Internet, the CCSR site appears to have
overlooked making a privacy information statement or similar easily
available to visitors; And yet requests considerably more information about
its subscribers than is necessarily required for electronic delivery.
It is impressive the site has obtained certain privacy enhancing
technologies membership, but the W3C link comes back as invalid, and with
the site not containing one, one supposes the ICRA rating does not to cover
a privacy statement/preference type check.
Perhaps the quote on the first page http://www.ccsr.cse.dmu.ac.uk is
pertinent - "If builders built buildings the way programmers wrote programs,
then the first woodpecker that came along would destroy civilization." Harry
Weinberg
Having said that - I live in hope.
