Steve,
This has been discussed many times - but there does not appear to be any
'approved' guidance on the subject, that can be adopted by all. The most
useful documents I have found come from the Health & Safety Executive (
http://www.hse.gov.uk/lau/lacs/ LAC 88/1 & 88/2 ). Here you will find the
legal justification for running the system, and also how the DPA applies.
Hope you find it useful.
Also on this subject - several years ago there was a case where a council
employee successfully claimed compensation at a tribunal, where he had been
attacked on a home visit (stabbed I think). I believe the case was won
because a department in the council knew the person was potentially violent,
but the information was not shared. Does anyone on the list remember this?
or did I dream it all up to justify having a system here?
Regards
Paul
