Well if you're going to put an FOI request to the IOC, can you ask them
to for that letter from the EU too. Because I think that would make
excellent for interesting reading!

I think the most interesting part of the report is the table on page 61,
which sets out the views of the respondents from the 35 countries on
what
they classify as personal data. To give an example:
75% of respondents "always" considered that national registration number
was
personal data;
66-74% "always" considered that name, DNA profile, fingerprint, head &
shoulders photo was personal data;
51-65% "always" considered that car registration, email address, credit
card
details, parents' names was personal data;
50% "always" considered that date of birth & state benefits received was
personal data;
34%-50% "always" considered that education, salary, sexual orientation,
addiction history, CCTV image was personal data;
33% always thought that shoe size, blood group, TV viewing habits, hair
colour, football team supported was personal data,
Forget about transborder data flows out of the EU - life is going to be
fun
enough when we are transferring this stuff within the EU.....
Perhaps, in the spirit of the Freedom of Information Act, we should ask
the
OIC what their response was to the question of what they considered
personal
data to be.................
If I skimmed the report accurately (and believe me it deserves to be
skimmed), in 154 pages the academics from the University of Sheffield
managed to say that what was probably more important was the context in
which the information was being used, rather than what the data actually
was.
There goes any chances of an honorary doctorate from that
University........

One hundred and fifty four pages! And we all paid for this! OK, I have
struggled to find the conclusion, am not going to waste huge paper and
toner
amounts on 154 pages!
The conclusion actually looks like the basis of a further request for
cash
to do further research! It says "No-one can agree" or so it seemed to
me
when I thought I'd found it

The IC has published Research Finding's on, amongst other things, "What
are
personal data"
